Our current projects include:
Kindergarten - We finished our Winter Self Portraits (portrait, watercolor resist) and are creating fabulous "Cardinal in Snowy Tree" paintings (using shapes to create form, painting skills, VA state bird) 1st Grade - Busy! Finished Cuckoo Clocks (watercolor resist, telling time) and Snowy Landscape (creating depth and perspective). We will be starting a Henri Matisse-inspired musical collage next week. 2nd Grade - Beautiful Blue Dogs (George Rodrigue, tint and shade) are just finished! We are beginning Self Portraits (with a surprise). 3rd Grade - Finished wonderful Birch Tree Landscapes (creating depth, new painting technique) and will be starting a Big and Bright Animal painting. 4th Grade - We just finished a Magazine Collage (they worked hard!) and are beginning a Roy Lichtenstein-inspired Self Portrait using the iPads (SketchbookX app). 5th Grade - Finished a Kimmy Cantrell inspired Abstract Face drawing using Crayola Slick Stix. The drawing was also used as a plan for a CLAY version which we have created. They are looking amazing and will be glazed soon! 4th graders experienced painting a bit differently...
After discussing Dale Chihuly's drawings and paintings, we tried it out for ourselves! After using colored pencils (a whole bunch at a time), we squirted paint (thoughtfully), added some brush strokes if desired, and most importantly had creative FUN! I am excited to post the creations when we return in January. I wanted to post some better pictures (than an earlier post) of our 4th grade Chihuly-inspired Chandelier. (The photo to the left is a close up of the middle section.) It really looks fabulous and there has been such great reactions from the students as they pass by the window. Everyone is really enjoying the installation! Please come visit it in person! Our current projects include:
